Sentimental Sunday

Yours truly

I’m not sure how old I am in this photo, but I can tell you several things about it. I still like purses, the two trees you see are still there, the road directly behind me is now gravel, my mother always had a hat on my head because it took a long time for my hair to grow, the hat is pink, it must be cedar season because my eyes are puffy. This photo was probably taken on Sunday after church. I know the hat was pink corduroy because my mother kept it for a long time. Either she made it, or my maternal grandmother did. I’m sure my grandmother sewed the coat I am wearing. She had five grandkids and she sewed outfits for us quite often. She love to sew.

I thought about reenacting the photo, but there is a fence right in front of the tree, and I would probably hit myself in the head with my purse. My purses are much heavier now because you never know what you might need!

I have a membership to My Heritage and today is the first time I used the colorized tool. Wow! The hat has a hint of pink in it and the coat looks like it’s navy blue. I bet it was. I doubt the grass was green but it looks good green since everything right now is dry and brown.

Sentimental Sunday

Adam1957Snow_opt

While looking through my parents photograhs for snow pictures for a Dietert Archives Project, I discovered this photo. The date on the back is December 1957. I’m thinking this is the first time I saw snow and there was enough to build a nice size snowman!   So to family and friends in Indiana where it is snowing with windchill temps in the negative numbers, I just want to say  “Just look, it does snow in the Texas Hill Country!”

Stay warm!

Sentimental Sunday: Adam Boys

AdamChesterandJimmiedogopt
Two boys and their dog, looks just about perfect. Except no one in the picture looks happy. Why? Chester’s and Jimmie’s dog was very friendly and enjoyed playing. Friends or strangers would come to the visit the Adam family and the dog would welcome them but IF the visitors tried to leave the dog would bark and growl and carry on. He wouldn’t let them out of the house. It was Chester’s and Jimmie’s job to hold the dog while the visitors would make a mad dash to their car. Once in their car the dog was perfectly ok. Jimmie said it was a pain to hold that struggling dog. The boys asked their parents if they could get a smaller dog because this big dog was too hard to hold. After Jimmie told me that story I looked at the picture again and noticed that the boys are hanging tightly to the dog and the dog is looking a little shifty eyed.
