Conrad's Stories

The life and times of the Conrad Adam family in Kendall County, Texas

Since the temperature was below 100 degrees today, I decided to visit the Boerne Cemetery. I wanted to find the graves of Adalbertha’s siblings. In 1867, Adam Vogt deeded the land to the city to create the Boerne Cemetery. Conrad Adam purchased his plots in August, 1867, as many of the early settlers did. Conrad and Adalbertha tombstones are the white marble stones. Kathinka Toepperwein, their oldest daughter, is buried next to them.

To the left, under some huge oak trees, I discovered Adalbertha’s sister Amalie Bergmann Dietert!

Rosa Bergmann Dietert was near her sister Amalie.

Anton Bergmann, their brother, was buried in another section and was fairly easy to find.

Anton Bergmann’s Tombstone

Success! I found all three!

There is one more sibling Johanna Bergmann Toepperwein. She is buried in San Antonio.

Henry Dietert and William were two of thirty-three inhabitants to purchase burial plots in the Boerne Cemetery in 1867.

Is this the Roeder Memorial Park or the Edge Family Cemetery Association? Both are listed in Boerne, but no “Boerne Cemetery” is listed. Thanks!

The graves are located in the Boerne Cemetery. Here is an information link about the cemetery http://www.ci.boerne.tx.us/index.aspx?NID=117.

This link connects to the Kendall County Gen Web site and lists all the cemeteries in the county http://www.txgenweb2.org/txkendall/cemetery.htm

I am a descendant of Conrad Adam, thru his daughter Emma Adam Herms, who was married to
Christian Herms. One of their sons was Herbert Alfred Herms who married Hertha Haas, daughter
of Otto Carl Haas and Emilie Uecker Haas. Herbert and Hertha had 2 children, Alfred Max Herms
who married Pamela Anderson and had one daughter Melissa. Herbert & Hertha’s youngest child
was Dorothy Ann Herms, who married Eugene John Ebert from New Braunfels. They had an
adopted daughter Lori, and 3 birth sons. They were divorced in 1980 and Eugene passed away
in Oct. 2011. I am Dorothy and still reside in New Braunfels. I am always delighted to see Gerhard
Adam from Braunfels, Germany, when he visits with other dignitaries from New Braunfels’ Sister
City of Braunfels, Germany, about every 2 years. He is a 4th generation descendant of Conrad’s
brother who remained in Germany and I am a 4th generation from Conrad who came to Boerne, TX.

Do you have a pic of Adam Vogt? He was my great great grandfather’s half brother. Born in 1822 in Germany, died in 1882 in Boerne, Text. Thank you.

    1. Kathryn says:

Hi John, Unfortunately, I do not have a photograph of Adam Vogt. I think the Dietert Archives at the Patrick Heath Public Library has been looking for one too, but so far nothing has surfaced.

What do you think?
